Object type: TWEEZERS
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Darlington
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A pair of copper-alloy straight-sided tweezers dating to the Roman period. The tweezers are formed from a single strip of rectangular-section copper-alloy with an integral suspension loop at the closed end. The arms are parallel-sided for their full length and are bent in to form pincers. One of the pincers is worn and fragmentary. The edges of the pincers are bevelled. The tweezers measure 63mm in length and the width of the blades is 4mm. Straight-sided tweezers appear to be more common on northern and military sites than flared tweezers (Eckardt and Crummy 2008, 148).
