An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (flat wing ends type, Western Group), cf. Mackreth 2011, 5.c. Plate 50, of early type (later 1st to early 2nd century AD). The pin spring is missing, with the pin. The head is formed of two wings, c.26mm wide, with oval perforated end plates, one of which is broken through at the back; These would have held the axis bar which the spring was wound around, this bar is now missing.
