An Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) great square-headed brooch foot-plate terminal lobe (c. 500-c. 600). This lobe is flat with a rounded base and narrows towards a break at the top. At the front, chip-carved decoration is in the form of a double grooved border. Within the grooves are irregular curved motifs. The rear face is plain. This fragment is green with patches of a dark green patina at the rear. The front is gilded and the break is old. Height: 17.3mm; width: 21.5mm; thickness: 2.4mm. Weight: 3.12g. Post-medieval lead pin head in which is embedded the upper end of an iron shank. The moulded head comprises an inverted cone below a convex top. The cone is decorated in relief with scallops around the top (i.e. the base) and with pellets and larger pellets within rings, in two groups separated by casting seams. On the top four similar pellets in rings and four radial pelleted lines. Length 18mm. Diameter 13mm. Diameter of shank c.1.5mm. Cf. another Norfolk example (NMS-AFEEF2). Mid to late 16th century. Incomplete medieval silvered or tin-coated copper alloy buckle, a socketed plate with two rivets near the open inside edge and a waist before a small fragment of the integral frame in which is set a separate spindle for the missing pin. The frame would have been lyre shaped, cf. Fingerlin 1971, Abb. 286. Engraved decoration on the front face of the plate is now rather faint. It is probably an attempt to depict the letter N or M. There are five longitudinal lines but no serifs. Extant length 34mm. Width at inside edge 22.5mm. c.1375 - c.1400. Field LDS
