An incomplete, cast copper alloy, post medieval hooked clasp of later 16th or 17th century date. This single sharp hooked clasp is sub-circular in plan with a rear facing hook. It is decorated with moulded relief and open work around a central circle. There is a double ribbed collar above the hook. This fragment consists of the middle and lower half of the hook. The clasp is red brown in colour with some light green corrosion. A complete, cast lead spindle whorl of probable Medieval date. It is biconical in shape, with a circular perforation in the centre. The whorl has been miscast, with a leak in the mould resulting in the lead from one side forming as blobs on the other. One of these blobs detached from the whorl as the artefact was being recovered and this blob has been weighed with the rest of the artefact. An incomplete copper-alloy hooked mount of post-medieval date (c. 16th century). The plate of the hook is flat backed and sub-rectangular. The attachment end is slightly rounded, and the plate then expands slightly along its length, until before the hook there is a cusped collar with a semicircular removal on each side, above which a smaller removal. Less than one half, the female part, of a medieval gilt copper alloy swivel from a leash, very badly distorted, broken across the ring and across the round aperture which would have accommodated a shank projecting from the counterpart ring. The diameter cannot be estimated Swivels are likely to have had a number of related uses: for example, on the leashes of hunting dogs or lapdogs, with the smaller examples perhaps being used on straps for raptors when hawking. A probably Roman (AD 43-410) copper alloy strap fitting or strap slide, circular in shape, solid and domed. At the apex is a circular knop, within a concave area 6mm in diameter. Surrounding this are five concentric ridges. To the reverse, which is slightly concave, is a D-shaped loop 10.17x2.44mm (internal 5.38x3.92mm). The object measures 17.05mm in diameter, 8.39mm in depth and weighs 2.40g.
