A Medieval copper alloy Harness Pendant of probable 1200-1400 date. The pendant is formed of a central circular plate with a moulded shield shape in the centre which is decorated with three chevron groves. There are four circular projections emerging from the central plate all of which are decorated with foliate designs. All five circles appear to have been decorated with blue or green enamel. A complete Medieval lead personal vesica shaped seal matrix (c. 1200-1300 AD). The matrix consists of a pointed oval which is flat and rectangular in cross-section. The engraved central device suggestive of a bow and arrow. The central image is surrounded by an engraved pointed oval and the legend which reads '+S'EDMVND.WMDEX'. The reverse of the object is flat and undecorated, and there is an a semi-circular raised lug at one end of the oval. It measures 35.6mm long, 20.4mm wide, 3.9mm thick and weighs 17.19 grams. A medieval contemporary copy (probably) of a sterling imitation of John of Avenses (1280-1304) minted at Mons in the mid 1290s (Mayhew M159-160, see also M34 for official issue). The coin appears to have been produced on a base metal core and silver plated. Given its condition it is uncertain whether the coin definitely belongs to Mayhew's 'enigmatic' group.
