A coin hoard of 5249 silver coins, including two cut halfpennies,  of Aethelred & Cnut in a lead parcel. The coins were in a brittle lead container, fragmented by the weight of the soil. Some of the surface of this had been damaged and close-packed coins could be seen within. We cleaned away the soil around what appeared to be a parcel made from an oblong of sheet lead [2.03-1.37mm thick] wrapping round the pile of coins. A copper alloy finger ring which is probably Medieval in date, about AD 1100 - 1350. The ring is in two piece and may be incomplete. The bezel and shoulders of the ring form one piece, and (part of) the hoop is a second piece. The bezel is rectangular in plan and is transverse to the hoop. It has a deep rectangular empty setting and a bevelled frame. It is 17.8mm by 15.8mm and is 4.3mm thick. The hoop is corroded, but was rectangular in section and is 3.4mm wide and 1.8mm thick. A corroded, worn and pierced Post Medieval Nuremberg jetton, struck by Hans Krauwinkel II, dating from about 1588 to 1589 AD. It is one of the Franco-allegorical jettons (Mitchiner type D); on the obverse are Procris and Cephalus and on the reverse is Minerva (see Mitchiner 1988 p 452, 1607a). The jetton is pierced with a rectangular hole measuring 2.7mm by 1.9mm at 12o'clock on the obverse. It measures 26.5mm (diameter) x 1mm (thickness) and weighs 2.1g. It has a brown patina with a patch of thick green corrosion and is slightly bent. Compare the much better preserved LON-FA6024.

Above this is a trefoil terminal, with a small circular perforation of 2.7mm diameter. The circular die face is engraved with a possible four-leafed clover. A complete silver gilt Medieval annular brooch dating from AD 1300 - 1400. The frame is circular in plan, with a pin constriction. The frame is flat and rectangular in cross-section. An incomplete Post-Medieval cast copper alloy toggle clasp from a sword-belt dating to the 16th or 17th Century. The object constitutes just less than half of the toggle section of a Read Type 1 toggle clasp, very similar to no.754 as illustrated in Read (2008). It is one-piece with moulded relief, flat to the reverse and with bevelled edges to the upper surface. The raised toggle bar is present, semi-circular in cross section and curved on the outside edge.
