Record ID: PUBLIC-7220DA
Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A side scraper fabricated on a thick flake of pale brown flint. The flake has a small bulb of percussion and ripples across the ventral face. The flake appears to be struck from a natural chunk of broken flint that has started to recorticate on the dorsal surface. There is no cortex evident. There is no evidence of previous flake removals. One edge, towards the distal end, has been worked using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch into a scraping edge. The scraper probably dates from the late Neolithic to the early Bronze Age.

Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An icomplete cast copper alloy vessel of Medieval date, AD.1100-1400. The vessel is shaped like an ampulla, with a bulbous rounded body that tapers in width to a narrow neck. Two semi-circular loops would have formed handles, just two stubbs remain one at either side of the opening. Unlike the typical pilgrim souvenirs, it is not made of lead alloy. The vessel has a deep greenish-gray patina with some suface pitting. The neck of the vessel is broken. Traditional interpretations of these vessels are as a flask for holy oil. It is possible that it is from a travelling chrismatory, or se…
