An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Hod Hill brooch. Only part of the head and bow survive, the remainder of the object is missing due to old breaks, now worn. At the head of the brooch the remains of the flattened terminal of the bow, with a central pin slot, is rolled forwards to hold in place, the now missing pin. The head tapers slightly and is separated from the bow by a transverse ridge decorated with beaded decoration. The bow is a flattened D-shape in section and has a concave front face. Treasure ref: 2004 T164: a hoard of fused late Roman copper alloy nummi. The hoard comprises at least twenty coins and an unknown amount contained within. Total weight: 22.06g. They all appear to be reduced irregular 'barbarous' copies (sometimes called 'minims'). One coin appears to show a crude copy of a fallen horseman design, dating the coins to the mid fourth century AD.

Incomplete Roman tin-coated copper alloy P-shaped or Proto Crossbow brooch. The flat-faced head has a scalloped upper edge and a single pierced lug on the reverse with the remains of an iron spring or axis bar. The bow widens towards the foot and is decorated with two longitudinal flutes or three ribs. There is a suggestion of missing lateral lugs at the base of the bow, cf. Hattatt 2000, pl. 93, no. 314. The head fragment of a copper allow Roman bow brooch, probably of Polden Hill type. It is broken approximately halfway down the length of the bow and the foot and catchplate are missing; one of the arms of the crossbar is also missing. Iron staining indicates the former position of the spring. The fragment measures 21.7x20x11.8mm and weighs 7.5g.
