Grey flint with cortex scraper. Oval flake with a dished dorsal side and a low bulb on the ventral. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the long curving edge, with the natulal hollow and the cortex within it affording a thumb rest. A hinge fracture and other exposures along the side opposite the retouch is probably adventitious recent damage. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Pale buff sedimentary stone - possibly a fine grained limestone - unidentified object. Trapezoid object with five flat faces and one longer side which is stepped in three stages, the latter probably a natural formation. The material appears unsuitable to serve as a whetstone, a function which the rectilinear form might otherwise admit, and none of the surfaces are so smoothed as to suggest this was used as a rubbing or polishing stone. Iron tack. Small wrought iron tack with a flat oval head. White material to a thickness of c.5mm trapped beneath the head may be corrosion product from lead sheet. If this is correct, this may have helped fasten light flashing. However, the accompanying finds did not suggest the presence of lead from structures in the vicinity, and this is a lightweight fastening at best. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1800.
