Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Medieval or Post-Medieval cast copper alloy double loop buckle frame, also known as a specatacle buckle. The frame has two oval loops which are triangular in cross-section. One end has a notch where the pin, now missing, would have rested. The loops and crossbar are triangular in section. The frame is bent upwards at each end, possibly due to post-depositional damage. Such a simple buckle is hard to date precisely, Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckle (page 53, No.294) which he dates to c.1350-1650 AD .
