A body sherd from a Roman Samian Ware vessel, it is too small to estimate the vessel form. The sherd is undecorated with a rbright orange slip on both internal and external surfaces. The fabric is pinkish orange with a fairly hard, laminate and has an angular fracture and relatively abundent very fine limestone. The sherd weighs 6.77g. Samian Ware was produced in Gaul from the mid 1st to the mid 3rd century. The fabric and colour of this example suggests it may be a Central Gaulish ware dating to c.AD 50-125 (Tyers 1999:113).
