Copper-alloy strap-mounted and skirted terret. The oval loop, through which the rein would have passed, is considerably worn at an angle from lower left to upper right on both sides. The loop is attached directly into a 'skirt' which is formed from four upward curving projections with globular terminals. Copper alloy brooch oif Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5.a1, flat wing ends type, Western Group). Rearward facing lugs on either end of the wings that hold the pin axis bar, the spring is made from six curls, the pin is missing. There is a loop on the top of the head for the external cord. Beaded borders decorate the ends of the wings and a crest decorate the front to the head. The catch plate on the reverse is missing. Date 40-120AD
