Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A post-Medieval double-loop buckle which is largely made of copper alloy. The frame is of flat section and is sub-rectangular in plan, having rounded corners and inward-bowing top and bottom sides. Contained within opposing holes at the centre of the frame is the iron axis bar. This bar serves to attach a tongue-shaped copper-alloy plate and also the pin. There is ascallop-shaped pin rest at the centre of both the right- and left-hand ends of the frame.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale grey flint with patches of cloudy patina scraper. Flake with broad flakes removed from its ventral side and with a bulb on the ventral. Short abrupt pressure flaked retouch removes the thin patina accumulated over a flake struck at some time before this reworking. The lack of patina on retouch may suggest the reworked object was then incorporated into a sealed context. Both episodes could be accommodated by a Neolithic date. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 35.3mm, Width: 17mm, Thickness: 10.6mm, Weight: 5.47gms.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy Roman to medieval (AD c.43-c.1500) awl. Overall, the awl measures 48.3mm long, 5.5mm wide and 5.2mm thick. It weighs 4.69g. The awl is rectangular in cross-section for half its length and circular in cross-section for the other half. Each half narrows to a point. The rectangular cross-sectioned part would have formed the tang and would have been inserted into a handle and the other point would have been the functional end.

Object type: TRANSVERSE ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale semi-translucent flint transverse arrowhead, as kindly identified by the finder. Small flake with long parallel flakes removed from the dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral, the working of the two sides being at right angles. Short abrupt retouch, probably a single impact, has trimmed what is here taken as the cutting edge of the arrowhead. The projectile must have received nearly all its effect from the combined power of bow and weight of the arrow shaft behind this lightweight head. Suggested date: Late Neolithic, 2700-2350 BC. Length: 11.4mm, Width: 14.2mm, Thicknes…

An incomplete sheet copper-alloy handle attachment from a strainer or skimmer of probable late-Medieval to early Post-Medieval date. The base of the handle attachment and a small fragment of the skimmer itself survive, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. It has a flat, rectangular back plate that tapers to a rounded base. On the back face of this plate is a second rectangular plate of equal dimensions and form, but which projects at its centre to form a rectangular socket that runs the length of the plates and would have enabled attachment of a handle. The two plates are held…

The clasp is made from two-pieces of sheet copper alloy, attached using three rivets. One larger rivet at the centre, towards the clasp and two smaller rivets at the attachment end. Between the two sheets traces of the leather book cover survive. The front plate (0.9mm thick) is decorative and has an expanded end (with a width of 23.1mm), enhanced…

Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A worn copper alloy post-medieval token, formed from a halfpenny of George II (AD 1727-1760). The coin has been clipped to form a serrated edge around its circumference, and nearly all detail has been removed or worn away - one can just make out the left facing bust of George II. On the reverse of the coin the initials W K have been incised. Tokens were a common occurance from the 17th century, some lead tokens being crudely made while other copper alloy tokens were manufactured to much higher standards. There are a couple of examples of other tokens with serrated edges (see SUSS-72B7…

Grey flint thickly patinated with cortex possible plano-convex knife. Elongated flake of plano-convex section. Minimal short abrupt pressure flaked retouch along one edge has trimmed cortex to produce a single durable cutting edge. It seems likely that the patination of the ventral surface was acquired before this reworking. Suggested date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, 2700-1600 BC. Post medieval copper alloy and silver spoon terminal of 18th century date The spoon was of 'apostle' form and is fragmentary (with a surviving length of 34.8mm and a weight of 5.8g) and comprises a copper alloy terminal surmounted on a silver handle. The terminal is heavily-corroded and appears to depict a standing figure (25.5mm long,9.0mm wide and 5.4mm thick) seemingly cloaked and with the right arm bent to the chest and may possibly have depicted the Virgin with Child.
