Two silver coins, late issues of the Amirs of Sind, probably of the ruler Ahmad or imitations thereof. They were produced in the early 11th Century. Coin 1: 0.28g, 8mm Coin 2: 0.30g, 7mm The coins originated from the area of modern day Pakistan. It is extremely unlikely that they would have circulated so far at the time they were in use, and their transportation to Britain probably did not take place before the second Anglo-Maratha War (1802-3) when the East India Company first established itself in regions where these coins are found.

The bracelet is made of silver wires twisted together to form an open hoop with solid terminals; diameter 65mm; weight, 44.32 grams. Non-destructive surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated a silver content of over 99% with traces of gold, lead and copper. The high purity suggests the bracelet is not of European origin, while the regularity of manufacture suggests it is probably made of machine-drawn wire in recent times. It does not therefore qualify as Treasure under the stipulated criteria of the Treasure Act. B.M. Ager Curator Department of Bri…
