Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale grey flint with patches of cloudy patina possible transverse arrowhead, as kindly identified by the finder. Irregular flake with flakes removed from opposite directions on its dorsal side and with a low bulb on the ventral. A chip at one corner of the putative arrowhead may detract from what was already a fairly irregular form. Suggested date: Late Neolithic, 2700-2350 BC. Length: 22.8mm, Width: 26.5mm, Thickness: 2.4mm, Weight: 1.70gms.

Pale buff flint with cortex and cloudy white patina patches knife. Flake with a single flake removed from its dorsal side and a prominent bulb on the ventral, both from hard hammer strike. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect interrupts the patina and forms a cutting edge along one curving side. Cortex is also removed along from the opposite edge; this and other chips which interrupt cortex or patina could have arisen fortuitously. Both episodes of deliberate working could be accommodated within the Neolithic period. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. …

Pale semi-translucent flint transverse arrowhead, as kindly identified by the finder. Small flake with long parallel flakes removed from the dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral, the working of the two sides being at right angles. Short abrupt retouch, probably a single impact, has trimmed what is here taken as the cutting edge of the arrowhead. The projectile must have received nearly all its effect from the combined power of bow and weight of the arrow shaft behind this lightweight head. Suggested date: Late Neolithic, 2700-2350 BC. Grey flint with cortex and cloudy patina debitage. A small elongated flake of very slightly curved profile. The accumulation of patina was followed by slight chipping; all could be fortuitous. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 22.2mm, Width: 10.2mm, Thickness: 3.5mm, Weight: 1.00gms.

Opaque pale grey flint with cortex scraper. A flake of wavy profile with parallel flakes removed from the dorsal side in the course of cortex trimming, and with short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect along its curved edge. The smooth ventral surface, which is reminiscent of a negative hinge fracture, facilitates a grip between finger and thumb. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Pale grey flint with patches of cloudy patina scraper. Flake with broad flakes removed from its ventral side and with a bulb on the ventral. Short abrupt pressure flaked retouch removes the thin patina accumulated over a flake struck at some time before this reworking. The lack of patina on retouch may suggest the reworked object was then incorporated into a sealed context. Both episodes could be accommodated by a Neolithic date. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 35.3mm, Width: 17mm, Thickness: 10.6mm, Weight: 5.47gms.

Dark grey flint of good quality, with extensive white patina, scraper. Oval flake with broad and narrow flakes removed from its dorsal side and rippled on the ventral. Short abrupt retouch of a protruding lobe has removed milky white patina, revealing the darker tint of flint beneath. This must have followed a long period during which the flake was exposed to weathering, and may imply that the struck flake was then recognised as of further value. However, both episodes could be accommodated by a Neolithic date. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 36.5mm, Width: 34.5m…

Mottled pale grey flint knife fragment. Small oval-ended flake with three long parallel flakes removed from the dorsal side, a bulb of percussion on the ventral side, and with very short abrupt and probably pressure flaked retouch along a short [7mm] concave part of one side; the object has broken from a longer flake, though this may have occurred before the retouch facilitating continued use or reuse. Grey flint of good quality knife. Flake with broad flakes removed from its dorsal side and with a striking platform and prominent bulb on the ventral. Very short retouch along one side is executed from the dorsal aspect. The primary working is characteristic of hard hammer strike and the retouch of pressure flaking, while the complete lack of patina and sharp edges suggests incorporation in a sealed context shortly after deposition. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 22.8mm, Width: 23.7mm, Thickness: 6.8mm, Weight: 2.66gms.

Dark brown flint of good quality with cortex spot knife. Leaf-shaped flake with two broad flakes removed from the dorsal side and with a bulb at one end and a positive hinge fracture at the other end of the ventral side. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect enhances a short cutting edge on one side; other chips probably represent fortuitous damage. The selection of a distinctively dark brown flint is characteristic of a few, usually early, stone tools reported from the region. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. A flint scraper dating to the Neolithic period, c. 4000-2350 BC. The scraper has been made on a flake and could be described as a 'thumbnail' scraper due to its size. There is no bulb or platform retained. Invasive soft-hammer retouch is visible around both laterals and the distal end, however there is none on the proximal end. All retouching is limited to the dorsal surface. The scraper has been burnt, after it was formed. There are two 'pot-lids', or spools that fracture and pop off under extreme conditons, such as heating or freezing. These pot lids break through the patina of the …
