Object type: BRACELET
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
The bracelet is made of silver wires twisted together to form an open hoop with solid terminals; diameter 65mm; weight, 44.32 grams. Non-destructive surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated a silver content of over 99% with traces of gold, lead and copper. The high purity suggests the bracelet is not of European origin, while the regularity of manufacture suggests it is probably made of machine-drawn wire in recent times. It does not therefore qualify as Treasure under the stipulated criteria of the Treasure Act. B.M. Ager Curator Department of Bri…

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Calderdale

A cast copper alloy flat axe of Early Bronze Age date, about 2200 BC - 1950 BC. The axe is probably a broad butt flat axe of Migdale type (decorated Variant) and is decorated with rain pattern. The blade flares from about two thirds of the way from the butt, with angular shoulders; this may have been secondary hammering; the cutting edge was narrower to begin with. The blade is 70.3mm wide at the tips, and flares from 46.2mm wide at the change of angle. The butt is 33.2mm wide half way along, and has a rounded end. The cutting edge is damaged, and is mainly missing. It is 6.2mm thi…

Object type: HOOKED TAG
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A silver-gilt Post Medieval hooked tag, dating from the 16th century. The back plate is trefoil with a pinked edge. There is a hollow domed boss soldered to the front of each lobe. These are decorated with three filigree circles on each, a pellet in the centre and a filigree border at the base of each boss. Some of the decoration is missing. In the centre of the plate is circular hole. Comparison with more complete examples suggests that this rivet once held in place a sheet flower held by a butterfly pin which would split on the reverse. On the reverse of the upper two lobes are scar…
