A cast copper-alloy double-looped oval buckle frame of post-medieval date (c. 1550-1650). The frame has a moulded pin rest formed of a double transverse central ridge, flanked by grooves, and lobed knop at either end of the bar. The bar is slightly narrowed, and the pin is missing; iron staining to the bar indicates the use of iron for the pin. The frame has a D-shaped cross-section with the reverse being flat. The object has a pitted olive green patina. Length: 40.69mm; Width: 26.82mm; Thickness: 3.5mm; Weight: 7.44g See Whitehead (2003, 61; no. 360) for a similar buckle dated…

An incomplete copper-alloy double-loop buckle of post-Medieval date. The intact side of the frame is 'D' shaped, with steep inner edges and flat upper surfaces that slope downwards and outwards. The axis bar has an oval cross section. Little remains of the other side of the frame, but the surviving portion suggests this was originally a symmetrical buckle. Looped loosely around the axis bar, the pin has a D-shaped cross section and parallel sides throughout most of its length, tapering only at the tip, which overhangs the edge of the frame.

A fragment of a copper-alloy double-loop buckle of post-Medieval date. The remaining piece of the frame indicates that this was once a symmetrical buckle with two D-shaped sides. Just under half of the left-hand side of the frame survives, along with the central axis bar and a small remnant of the right-hand side. The more complete side is generally of flat section, but there is a miscast area at the top, where the upper surface of the frame is concave. The axis bar is also poorly finished, having an irregular surface in parts. Incised lines at the top left corner of the frame may …
