A 19th-20th century modern replica of a silver penny of Aelfred Rex, which has been turned into a pendant by means of a nicely produced loop with rivet. The obverse depicts a helmeted bust facing left similar to London Monogram types, but is left facing, rather than right, with the addition of a sword behind his head. The bracelet is made of silver wires twisted together to form an open hoop with solid terminals; diameter 65mm; weight, 44.32 grams. Non-destructive surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated a silver content of over 99% with traces of gold, lead and copper. The high purity suggests the bracelet is not of European origin, while the regularity of manufacture suggests it is probably made of machine-drawn wire in recent times.
