An Early Medieval silver penny of Archbishop Wulfred (AD 805-832), dating c. AD 810. This is a group II, transitional monogram type coin. The obverse depicts a tonsured bust facing within inner circle. The inscription reads [WULFREDI AR]CHIEPI[SCOPI]. The reverse has the monogram of DOROBERNIA in the centre. The inscription reads SAE[BERHT] MONETA, indicating Saeberht as the moneyer. The coin would have been minted in Canterbury. North Volume I (1980, no. 240). An Early Medieval cut half of Aethelred II (AD 978-1016), dating AD 1009-1017. The obverse depicts the bust of the king in profile facing left, last issue style 7 (North, 1975, 122). The reverse is of the small cross variety. The coin was minted in London by Leofwine. As the penny is cut in half, not all of the inscription is visible. North (1975, no. 777). Late Saxon copper alloy stirrup-strap mount, Williams Class A, Type 1. Sub-triangular or pentagonal, with twin rivet-holes above remains of flange on reverse, two rounded knops on either side, with two more flanking the rounded apex loop, the perforation containing the corroded remains of an iron rivet. Worn and corroded remains of engraved decoration depicting two addorsed beasts. Height 49mm. Width 30.5mm. 3.5mm thick. Weighs 24.55g. 11th century.

A copper alloy early medieval strap end. The strap end is pointed and the bifurcating attachment end is largely missing. The zoomorphic head is debased; the ears are behind the head and are formed from four C shapes. The body is decorated with a single panel which is infilled with a grid arranged diagonally.

A copper alloy early medieval strap end dating to the 9th century. The strap end has a debased head with the ears behind; the neck is slightly waisted. On the curving body is a six-sided panel which contains a sinuous interlacing beast whose tale ends in a scroll and whose head looks forward to the left, the mouth agape. A leg and foot can be seen adjacent to the lower part of the frame. The decoration has been inalid with what appears to have been niello, though now rather degraded. The bifurcated attachment end is a little broken.

A fragment of late early-medieval (1000-1100) copper alloy bridle cheek-piece of Williams Type 2. It consists of long tapering projection ending in a rounded knob, and at the other end extending into an openwork design of three narrower projections around two semi-circular holes. The breaks at each arm are worn and old. The object is trapezoidal in cross-section, being flat to the underside with several grooves and rough to the touch. Two silver coins, late issues of the Amirs of Sind, probably of the ruler Ahmad or imitations thereof. They were produced in the early 11th Century. Coin 1: 0.28g, 8mm Coin 2: 0.30g, 7mm The coins originated from the area of modern day Pakistan. It is extremely unlikely that they would have circulated so far at the time they were in use, and their transportation to Britain probably did not take place before the second Anglo-Maratha War (1802-3) when the East India Company first established itself in regions where these coins are found.
