The badge depicts the Virgin Mary in a long gown, holding a sceptre in right hand and the baby Jesus in the left. The Virgin is crowned and the child has a halo with radiating rays projecting. A Post Medieval copper alloy strap fitting for a sword belt, dating to the early 17th century. This example is composed of the plate, which tapers from the top to the hook. Attached to the hook is a copper alloy ring. The ring has only been crudely finished with a fragment of copper alloy attached where it was attached to the adjoining ring during the manufacturing process. A Post Medieval iron hooked mount or escutcheon, dating to the 16th century. The object is ovoid in shape with a small rounded projection at the widest end and a hook projecting from the narrowest end. There are two rivet holes, one at either end of the plate, both of which have the heads of the rivet and part of the shanks still in situ. Based on the curviture of the object it is likely from a vessel, with the hook pointing outwards.
