Object type: HOOKED TAG
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An early post-medieval (1500-1700) copper alloy hooked tag, measuring 31.91x12.99x6.02mm and weighing 2.25g.
The body of the tag is broadly trapezoidal with the hook protruding from the smallest edge of the body. The hook (which is flat in cross-section) curls back on itself. The wider end is in-curved with a V-shaped groove. Arranged vertically are two rivets holes (counter-sunk to the reverse), the one nearest the wider end retaining an iron rivet.
All original patina has been lost and reverse is slightly concave. It is likely this object functioned as part of a sword belt assemblage
