A severely double-struck Medieval short cross penny of Henry III. Probably Class 7b, dating from c. AD 1222-c. 1236. Uncertain moneyer. Probably Canterbury mint. Cf. North 1994 Vol I, p. 223, no. 979, (A)-(D). The letter A is square in shape on the reverse, in keeping with the style of Class 7b. In addition, the style of the hair curls is similarly upturned and crescentic. The bust is positioned very close to the lower inner circle, with a ringed collar. A silver cut halfpenny of Henry III. Voided long-cross coinage, probably North Class 3, dating from 1248-1250. Mint of Lincoln.Cf. North 1991 Vol II, p. 226, nos. 986-988/1; probably Class 3c, but this is unclear due to the detail of the cut half remaining. The obverse bust is somewhat crude and the individual small and large pellets have blurred together to create haphazard dashes for the beard.
