A severely double-struck Medieval short cross penny of Henry III. Probably Class 7b, dating from c. AD 1222-c. 1236. Uncertain moneyer. Probably Canterbury mint. Cf. North 1994 Vol I, p. 223, no. 979, (A)-(D).
The letter A is square in shape on the reverse, in keeping with the style of Class 7b. In addition, the style of the hair curls is similarly upturned and crescentic. The bust is positioned very close to the lower inner circle, with a ringed collar. The letter x in 'REX' is very small, with soft edges.
