Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a medieval copper alloy strap end; the terminal is missing and the complete strap end would have been of composite construction. What survives is part of one plate which is slightly tapering and has a hollow attachment end with a circular aperture and two rivet holes. The plate is inscribed with a panel containing black letter script but this is difficult to read. What seems to be present are the letter lb[...]. The field between the letters is infilled with zigzags. The reverse is covered in file marks arranged diagonally.

Broad period: ROMAN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete and broken pair of copper alloy tweezers, possibly of Roman or Early Medieval date. The tweezers are in two parts: one arm is complete with the curved loop, while the other has some length missing towards the loop end. The intact arm, and therefore the tweezers when complete, has a length of 58.58, with the broken arm measuring only 39.07mm. At the tip of each arm the gripping edge is bent inwards at a 90 degree angle. From this end towards the loop the arms taper from 7.14mm in width to 2.68mm in width. The tweezers are undecorated and weigh 4.49g.
