An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative rear hook bow brooch. It is missing both of its wings due to old breaks, perhaps the result of deliberate breakage of the brooch, although this is uncertain. At the head of the brooch is an integrally cast, rear facing rectangular lug, and on the underside of the head the top of the bow has a semi-circular moulding where it meets the wings. A copper-alloy Roman nummus of Galerius, c. AD 300-3 (Reece period 15). Reverse: GENIO POPVLI ROMANI, Genius standing left, modius on head, chlamys over left shoulder, holding patera and cornucopiae. Mint of London. RIC VI, p. 124, no. 14b. There are two circular pierced holes towards the outer edge.
