Object type: COIN
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Greater London Authority
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An Iron Age copper alloy potin, dating 100-50 BC. This is a Class I potin being circular with a rectangular tab projecting on one side. The obverse depicts a stylised bust, formed of three crescents forming the head and nose, with a ring and dot motif in the centre for the eye. None of the crescents meet. On the reverse is a bull, butting left, with a line below and two crescents above. There appears to be a pellet underneath and connected to the body of the bull. The closest exact parallel for this is in Hobbs (1996, no. 705) though none of the early potins are identical. The object …

Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Leicestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Early Medieval copper alloy bow brooch fragment, 45mm long, 35mm wide and 4mm thick. The brooch is in fair condition and weighs 24.37grams. The surface patina is odd with green, brown and sooty corrosion, perhaps suggesting the object has been exposed to fire? The 'square' portion of the brooch is incomplete and appears to house the scar of a catchplate on its reveres, which would make it the 'flat' panel below the bow. It is decorated with a raised rectangular triple border which contains raised decoration which could represent a face? The curved bow is also decorated with rai…

A Post Medieval copper alloy strap fitting for a sword belt, dating to the early 17th century. This example is composed of the plate, which tapers from the top to the hook. Attached to the hook is a copper alloy ring. The ring has only been crudely finished with a fragment of copper alloy attached where it was attached to the adjoining ring during the manufacturing process. There are also casting flashes that have not been removed with a file. The upper edge of the plate has a pronounced curved projection at each corner. The plate is slightly plano-convex. There are traces of iron …

A silver cut halfpenny of Henry III. Voided long-cross coinage, probably North Class 3, dating from 1248-1250. Mint of Lincoln.Cf. North 1991 Vol II, p. 226, nos. 986-988/1; probably Class 3c, but this is unclear due to the detail of the cut half remaining. The obverse bust is somewhat crude and the individual small and large pellets have blurred together to create haphazard dashes for the beard.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Post Medieval iron hooked mount or escutcheon, dating to the 16th century. The object is ovoid in shape with a small rounded projection at the widest end and a hook projecting from the narrowest end. There are two rivet holes, one at either end of the plate, both of which have the heads of the rivet and part of the shanks still in situ. Based on the curviture of the object it is likely from a vessel, with the hook pointing outwards. The mount has a mid-dark grey pattination with patches of light brown and orange on both sides and some light grey concreted material on the back of the…

A Post Medieval lead alloy token, dating to the 17th century. The token is biface, with a crescent moon on one side and the initials TC on the other. The crescent design can be seen on a token dating to the 17th century (Mitchiner and Skinner, 1985, plate 19 no.177). This is therefore a likely date for this token. Dimensions: diameter: 18.25 mm; weight: 4.04g. Reference: Mitchiner, M. and Skinner, A. 1985. English Tokens C.1425 - 1672. In Challis, C. and Blackburn, M.
