An incomplete copper alloy Roman (AD 75-175) trumpet brooch, consisting of the trumpet head (with incomplete head-loop) and the upper bow only. The pin also is incomplete projecting 11.17mm - the brooch measures 48.34mm. It weighs 23.47g. The plate-head is oval in shape with the remains of a loop projecting at the centre of the curved edge. The head measures 31.62mm wide and 21.62mm high including the remains of the loop which projects 4.25mm beyond the trumpet head. The brooch consists of a triangular shaped head plate with a curved upper surface. This sits above the start of a curved bow, now incomplete. The frame is flat and curvilinear. The front and back face have grooved borders on both the inner and outer edge. Between these is a possible fictitious legend. An incomplete, copper alloy zoomorphic brooch , dating to the Roman period (100-200 AD). The brooch takes the form of a swimming duck, with an elongated hoizontal body and long neck rising at a right angle from the body. The head is lost to an old break at the top of the neck and the lug and catchplate only remain as worn fragments. Corrosion close to the lug at the 'tail' end of the brooch, suggests that the pin was originally made of iron. A copper alloy, probable Langton Down brooch dating from the late Iron Age to early Roman periods (AD 25-60). The fragment survives as the wings and part of the bow; the pin, foot and catchplate are all missing. At the top of the brooch, there are semi-circular wings which form the head and are undecorated. The bow extends from the head at c. 90 degrees and the front bears six incised lateral, parallel lines forming ridges between. Hattatt (1989) illustrates a similar example, p306 no 769, which he dates between AD 25-60.
