Record ID: ESS-591D80
Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Essex
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A copper alloy, probable Langton Down brooch dating from the late Iron Age to early Roman periods (AD 25-60). The fragment survives as the wings and part of the bow; the pin, foot and catchplate are all missing. At the top of the brooch, there are semi-circular wings which form the head and are undecorated. The bow extends from the head at c. 90 degrees and the front bears six incised lateral, parallel lines forming ridges between. Hattatt (1989) illustrates a similar example, p306 no 769, which he dates between AD 25-60.
