Object type: CURTAIN FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast copper alloy ring or loop which probably functioned as a curtain fitting, of Post Medieval date, circa 15th - 17th Centuries AD.
It is sub-circular in plan with a thick bi-trapezoid section with rounded edges. In profile the loop is flat. The surface has visible course-filing marks from the finishing as suggested by Egan (1998: p.62) as being one of the characteristics of a 'drape ring'. The surface has a matte dark brown / dark green abraded surface.
It measures 26.4mm external diameter, 19.8mm internal diameter and 2.8mm thick. It weighs 3.6 grams.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Dark grey flint, with cloudy patina overall save where chipped, knife. Long flake with long broad parallel flakes removed from its dorsal side and with a low bulb on the ventral, all from unidirectional working. Invasive scalar and short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect forms cutting edges along both long sides. The finder kindly cites NLM-36E882 as a possible parallel and suggests an Early Bronze Age date and an identification as a plano-convex knife, though the limited extent of retouch may distinguish this object from that type. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3…

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper alloy mount, possibly a strap fitting, of post-medieval date. The mount is sub-triangular with a extended knop at its peak. The mount has been heavily gilded, which obscures much of the moulded detail. This moulded details appears to comprise a cherub's head surrounded by a ruff and floral decoration with scrolls below; the style suggests a c.17th century date. On the reverse of the mount is the remains of an integrally cast shank, probably for attachment to the strap. Similar designs are seen on clothes fasteners of 16th or 17th century date, while cherubs w…

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Dark grey flint with cortex debitage. Two fragments with hard hammer flake removal scars on their dorsal sides and with prominent bulbs and ripples on their ventral sides. The entirely unpatinated surfaces may suggest a relatively recent date and/or recent disturbance from a sealed context. The larger fragment has a battered edge, though this might be fortuitous damage. Suggested date: Late Bronze Age, 1000-800 BC,
Combined Weight: 33.83gms.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A scraper, most likely from the late Neolithic - Early Bronze Age, circa 2500BC-1500BC. Medium grey in colour with a small amount of cortex still adhering to the dorsal face and the platform and bulb are present. The whole of the dorsal face is worked indicating that it may have been taken off the edge of an axe (an axe sharpening flake) and then retouched at a later date into a scraper. The original date for the axe is most likely Late Neolithic. There is evidence of edge retouch/utilisation around 2/3 of the edge.

Pale grey flint with patina overall flint knife. Triangular flake with long parallel flake removal scars on its dorsal side, and with a small bulb at its narrow end. The object is lightly curved in profile, which may argue against the finder's suggestion that it is a chisel arrowhead, though the broad end does indeed have a long flake removed from along that edge, and across the alignment of other working. Suggested date: early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC.
