An incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester derivative Dolphin brooch with a bent pin. It measures 38.76mm in length and weighs 8.72g. The wings are semi-circular in section and span 20.19mm. To the reverse is a double-pierced lug with five coils on either side forming the spring mechanism. The pin extends from the left of the lug towards the catchplate, at 20.50mm it bends up and slightly to the right. To the front, the bow extends from the top of the wings where it is 6.44mm wide in the characteristic dolphin 'hump'. It curves gently downwards narrowing to 1.19mm at the foot. The ca…
