A complete cast copper alloy trumpet brooch of Roman date. The spring mechanism is present and complete with axis bar and five turns of the spring one of which terminates in the pin. The axis bar is broken and so the head loop is missing. The head is wide and trumpet shaped with a small lug, and a central spine terminating at a collar which is decorated with vertically incised lines. An assemblage of three secondary blades, probably dating from the Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic (c. 7000 BC - c. 3501 BC). Blade no. 36 (right-hand blade in photograph) and 37 (left-hand blade) are of trapezoidal section, have diffuse bulbs of percussion and are snapped at their distal ends. The third blade, no. 67, is of triangular section and also has a low bulb and diffuse rippling. All three blades have a white or off-white surface, which is the result of deposition in alkaline soil. The flint is conchoidally fractured, with part of the striking platform at the proximal end. Possible semi-abrupt retouch is located at the bottom left-hand corner.
