Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Medieval date (1200-1700 AD). The weight is broadly circular in plan and regular in cross section. The upper face is relatively flat and has a single irregular pierced hole through the centre. The corroded remnants of an iron wire is present; this wire would have aided the use and also secured it for safekeeping / storage. The weight is a mid grey colour with an even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina which covers all surfaces. The weight has been marked by movement in the ploughsoil. This weight is most likely to date from the later …

Post-medieval half-ounce Avoirdupois discoidal lead weight stamped with the royal cipher, a crown over [?] R. A hole has been roughly driven through the monarch's initial letter. It is tempting to imagine that the letter was C and the perpetrator a keen Republican. Diameter 21.7 - 23mm. Thickness 3.5mm. Weight 13.26g / 0.4680oz.
