Broad period: ROMAN
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A copper alloy Roman nummus of Constantine I, dating from AD 321 (Reece period 16). BEATA TRANQUILLITAS reverse type depicting Altar inscribed with VOT/IS/XX and surmounted by globe. Mint of Trier. Cf. RIC VII, p. 191, probably nos. 305-306.
Because of surface wear on the obverse, some attributes of the bust are unclear. It is likely that the bust is wearing the trabea and holding an eagle-tipped spear in left hand, rather than right.
