Description: A complete later 12th century silver finger ring with niello inlay. The band has been slightly bent and is rectangular in cross section.
The ring comprises a narrrow band (2.1mm wide and 0.65mm thick) which expands into wider (2.95mm wide and 1.0mm thick) shoulder panels and central panel (4.6mm wide and 1.7mm thick). An incomplete gilded silver stirrup finger ring, of Medieval dating (AD 1200 to AD 1400).
The finger ring has a flat hoop. The finger ring was originally adjustable, with the hoop split in two. One side of the hoop is complete with an rounded end, the other exhibits an old square break. The shoulders have been decorated with a two strand twisted rope or guilloche design, with a Z twist to it. with The hoop rises to a pointed bezel. A complete silver stirrup finger ring, of Medieval dating (AD 1200 to AD 1400).
The finger ring has a D shaped hoop. The hoop rises to a flat topped pointed bezel. A gem is set into the bezel with a plain setting. The gem is oval. Under magnification, it is possible to see pitting and a conchoidal fracture in the surface of the gem, suggesting that it is probably glass as opposed to a gemstone. A pink paste is present around the edges of the gem and inside the setting. The hoop thins in width towards the back of the ring.
