Copper alloy hinged lid, probably of post medieval date The object comprises the complete lid only (with a length of 48.1mm and a weight of 13.5g). The hinge has a single, central lug (10.6mm high, 12.3mm long and 2.8mm thick, giving the lid an overall depth of 15.0mm) with a large sub-circular aperture (6.2mm diameter). The body is sub-circular (25.8mm long, 23.9mm wide and 4.8mm deep) and is deeper at the hinge end (7.4mm compared to 6.2mm). Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4, flat wing cap type), c.f. Mackreth 2011, 4.l, Plate 48. and of 1st to 2nd century AD date. Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4.a-b., flat wing ends type), and of 1st century AD date. The brooch is fragmentary and represented by the head and upper bow only and would have been comparatively substantial (with a surviving length of 37.8mm, a surviving depth of 17.5mm and a weight of 14.0g). The missing spring was likely to have been secured between lateral lugs now lost.
