Copper alloy scabbard chape. Cast moulded and collared terminal and [now] triangular flattened sheet metal chape, probably from the sheath for a relatively broad bladed knife or sword. Object type: HINGE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy and possible hinge pivot. Initially considered as a coat hook or similar, but the sharp angle might rather commend an identification as a hinge pivot, possibly from furniture rather than a structural context. Cast coat hook with a round section shank angled at its mid point and an expanded and collared terminal which retains the rust stain from an iron or steel fixing pin. Now bent. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1800-1900. Length (as found): 25.6mm, Diameter (at terminal): 11.0mm, shank Thickness: 4.1mm, Weight: 5.81gms.

Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper-alloy lug, probably from the handle of a chafing dish of Late Medieval or Early Post-Medieval date (AD 1400 - AD 1600). The lug is sub-oval in plan and rectangular in cross-section with rounded corners. It has a triangular collar at the attachment end, beyond which is the stub of a circular rivet which would have attached to the vessel wall. The loop has a slightly off-centre hole through it to hold the handle which has the appearance of having worn through the side of the lug. The gap in the side of the lug, however, has neat, unbroken edges and is flattened on the outs…
