Object type: DRESS HOOK
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper alloy dress hook dating to the post medieval period, c. AD 1550 to AD 1700. The object is pentagonal in shape with a sharp hook projecting out from a point and back. There is some moulded decoration and possibly an openwork design however the object is quite worn which makes interpretation difficult. There are two projections from one side of the object and it is likely that these would have turned 90 degrees and joined to create a rectangular loop for attachment to clothing. Read 2008, Early Post Medieval Class E, Type 3. See number 403.
