Incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester Derivative Harlow brooch in quite fresh condition, the spring, the pin, the lower end of the double-pierced lug and the catchplate flap missing. The wings are decorated with a vertical groove at the outer ends and an oblique groove. The bow is of triangular cross-section, with fine transverse engraved lines across a fine median groove which runs almost the full length down to a transverse groove just above the terminal. Roman silver intaglio finger ring 28mm in width, 24mm deep and 12mm thick at the bezel. The object is in fair condition and weighs 13.49grams. The ring has a circular hoop with an oval cross-section. This is narrow at the bottom and expands and swells to form a flattened bezel which is set with an oval Intaglio, made from a stone? with a white body and an orange surface. The intaglio shows a standing figure with something held in one hand. The form of the ring fits Giurauds type 2c (Henig type II?). which have been dated to 1st and 2nd Centuries. An irregular and poorly preserved cast lead alloy token or possibly a weight of later medieval or post-medieval date (1200-1800). The token is broadly circular in plan. The upper face is poorly preserved but seems to be ddecorated by two initials T (or possibly I / J) and G positioned on either edge. The upper face is decorated with a cast design comprising a vertical cross contained within a circle both cast in low relief; within each quarter of the cross is a single pellet positioned unevenly. The overall design can be compared to of Powell's type 14b - possibly designed to simulate medieval coinage. The reverse face is flat and undecorated.
