A copper-alloy Roman sestertius, probably of Commodus (AD 175-192), dating to the period AD 190 (Reece period 9). Reverse type depicting Genius standing left holding patera and cornucopiae, an altar to the left, S-C in the field. Mint of Rome. Cf. BMC no. 645 passim; RIC III, no. 561. The coin has suffered from deliberate damage in antiquity that has removed much of the obverse type, with mutliple diagonal grooves visible on the surface of the coin.
