Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast cruciform brooch fragment, comprising the lowest part of the bow, a collared moulding, a horse head foot with prominent eyebrows and eyes, and a trilobate or shamrock-leaf terminal which springs in two halves from the lower part of the horse head. A thin folded catch plate projects from the back, and there are a pair of deep grooves alongside it. The metal colour is unusual: scratches and abrasion have removed a green patina to reveal a grey metal below it. Description: An incomplete gilded silver pyramid mount of Early Medieval dating (first half of the 7th Century AD). Around 50% of the pyramid mount is present, consisting of the top (apex) and two sides (faces). The rest is missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The mount is hollow and originally would have had a square base. The broken stub of a transverse bar, originally for a strap attachment, is preserved on the base. The two surviving faces of the pyramid mount are decorated with the same chip-carved design, comprising a hanging triangle at the tip of the face, with sub-trian…
