A Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4.l, flat wing ends type) (AD c. 80-120): The copper alloy brooch is incomplete, the wings are missing. At the upper edge of the wings and bow head there is a trace of an integral hook which would have held the chord in place. The axis bar, spring and pin are all missing. Post Medieval (probably c. 1500 to c. 1800) vessel or box foot: The copper alloy foot is in the form of a paw with four toes and claws. The ankle is narrowed and is crescentic in section. Above the ankle the leg is a flat platform with a central circular indention which may be part of the fixing point onto the vessel. The underside and reverse of the foot and ankle it is hollow and is slightly moulded with the toes being visible in low-relief.
