Record ID: IOW-013794
Object type: SHOT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Isle of Wight
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete post-Medieval cast lead musket ball (c. 1600-c. 1800). This ball appears to have been flattened due to impact. On the flattened side there is a scalloped break with curving striations which may be the result of a later event. It is grey with flecks of a buff patina. Length: 16.9mm; width: 15.9mm; thickness: 9.2mm. Weight: 11.18g. The weight suggests that it could have been used in a pistol (Harding 2012). Harding, D.F., 2012. Lead Shot of the English Civil War: A Radical Study. London. Foresight Books. London.

Aworn medieval silver halfpenny of Edward III (1327-77) of the Third 'Florin' coinage (1344-1351), probably belonging to Withers Type 6. The mint is London. The full identification of this coin is difficult owing to its condition but the shape of the X (in REX), size of the letters and their untidy alingment probably indicates this is Wither Type 6.
