An incomplete post-Medieval cast lead musket ball (c. 1600-c. 1800). This ball appears to have been flattened due to impact. On the flattened side there is a scalloped break with curving striations which may be the result of a later event. It is grey with flecks of a buff patina. Length: 16.9mm; width: 15.9mm; thickness: 9.2mm. Weight: 11.18g. The weight suggests that it could have been used in a pistol (Harding 2012). Harding, D.F., 2012. A silver Post-Medieval coin that has been altered into a dress accessory or mount. A silver frame, or rim, 1.4mm thick appears to be seperately attached to the outer edge of the coin, and is broken and coming away from the coin edge. Where the edge of the coin is revealed, some file marks are visible, suggesting alterations to the coin to make it fit into and adhere to the rim. The reverse shows a shield bearing the Royal arms of England, but the detail is very worn. Its size, flat topped shield on the reverse and POSVI legend on the reverse suggest this is a possible Crown of E…

Cast, lead alloy decorative mount, mid grey in colour with large areas of tan coloured surface corrosion. The design on the front takes the form of a mythical creature, with what appears to be the head of a lion and the body of a bird (eagle?). It has short oval wings and thin legs which terminate in oversized talons which are grasping a sphere, possibly meant to be the earth(?). The design is quite crude and very worn, there are however finer details visible in particular representing the feathers of the wings and the body. The back is hollow and also covered in a thick patina of cor…

Copper alloy unidentified object. Cast bun-shaped object with a flat-topped sub-spherical body, possibly a handle, above a sharply stepped moulded part from which projects a rounded pad with a possible character in low relief. It is uncertain whether this is an initial letter in florid style, an indeterminate motif, or even an oriental character: at all events it would, being a positive feature, leave a negative impression if used as a stamp or seal. A trial (illustrated) produced no clear mark. The flat top appears to have been hammered or pounded in the course of its use. Suggested …
