The interior of the rim has a lid seating, while the exterior has a deep groove at juncture of rim and vessel neck/wall. It measures 56.10mm in width, approximately 200mm in diameter, 18.34mm in height, 11.96mm in thickness, and 17.72g in weight. The date of this sherd remains uncertain. A copper-alloy lug handle from a vessel of Medieval date. It is formed from a rectangular plate of copper-alloy folded to produce a front and back plate with curved upper edge. The plates are pierced at bottom centre by a separately cast copper-alloy rivet with flattened head, which would have held the handle in place at the rim of the copper-alloy vessel. At the top centre of the plates is a second circular perforation, presumably to enable attachment of a now missing handle. The entuire object measures 37.65mm in length, 31.12mm in width, 1.14mm in thickness at plate, and 18.79g in …

Bent and broken sheet copper alloy 'paper-clip' rivet. Such objects were most commonly used for the repair of metal vessels. Most are likely to date to the medieval or post-medieval period, but some are earlier, such as examples from Late Saxon contexts at Flixborough (Rogers, N. in Evans and Loveluck 2009, 115-7). Length (unbent) 26mm. Extant width (unbent) 17mm. c.1300 - c.1700
