Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Largely complete Mesolithic axe of sub-triangular section. The dorsal face is patinated a mottled brown with a patch of weathered cortex midway. The ventral face is extensively spotted with iron stains and of a paler brown patination. A few small pieces of edge damage to the piece have occurred at different times; the more recent chips reveal the original unpatinated mid grey mottled flint. The cutting edge of the axe is differently patinated from the faces and was likely to have been damaged much earlier after deposition. Although these are usually identified as axes, it is likely th…

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Late Upper Palaeolithic bruised long blade seemingly struck from a single platform core of light grey patinated mottled flint with some tiny patches of spotty iron staining. The blade is erratically retouched from both faces and exhibits wear along the length of both lateral edges and the distal tip. The small platform and lack of bulbar scar would indicate this blade was produced with a soft hammer. This is the first recorded Upper Palaeolithic find from this site. 122 x 32.5 x 12mm. c.15,000 - c. 10,000 BC.
