Complete copper-alloy and gilded hinged book fitting of late post Medieval to Modern date. The fitting consists of two flat plates hinged together with a cylindrical pin. The smaller plate is sub-triangular in outline with curvilinear cut-outs along the edges and a lozenge-shaped terminal - there are three circular rivets arranged in a triangle formation with one through the terminal. There is a small fragment of embossed leather on the reverse of this part of the hinge. The other plate is sub-rectangular with curvilinear cut-outs along the sides. A borer or piercer fabricated on a thick, secondary flake of honey-coloured flint. The flake is sub-triangular in plan with no ripples of percussion or bulb of percussion evident on either face. There is a large area of off-white cortex remaining on one face covering approximately 80% of its surface.
