A borer or piercer fabricated on a thick, secondary flake of honey-coloured flint. The flake is sub-triangular in plan with no ripples of percussion or bulb of percussion evident on either face. There is a large area of off-white cortex remaining on one face covering approximately 80% of its surface. The flake has one, thick, convex edge, with the opposing one being worked to produce a sharp, concave edge using long, sub-parallel, low-angle retouch along its length. The tip of the borer has been further worked to produce a sharp point for boring or piercing using short, scaled, semi-a…

Grey-brown flint with cortex core. Flint pebble with flakes removed by working from one end, which has produced a tapered or keeled form overall. Cloudy patina on some struck surfaces, and its lack on others, suggests the reuse of the core. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC, with subsequent Neolithic reuse, 3500-2350 BC. Length: 34.3mm, Width: 27.6mm, Thickness: 21mm, Weight: 16.95gms
