Record ID: DENO-970D40
Object type: SERRATED IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: City of Nottingham
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Worked lithic implement of Neolithic, probably Early Neolithic date. The flint is of an amber-brown mottled colour with partial cortex remaining along one edge. The flake is approximately 3 times longer than it is wide and has abrupt or semi-abrupt sub-parallel retouch along all sides apart from the are where a length of cortex remains which covers approximately half of one of the longer sides. It is notable that two of the retouched edges form a near right-angle at the point where they meet. The opposite corner along this short-edge, which may have formed a burin or borer point, is…

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: City of Nottingham
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Two fragments of flint working debitage (waste material) dated as probably Neolithic due to association with a worked tool found with these two flakes and of the same material (recorded separately). The flakes are of an amber-brown mottled colour with partial cortex remaining and carry all the classic signs of debitage including the right curvature in profile, bulbs of percussion, ripples, ridges, striking platforms and bulb scars. Dated broadly to the Neolithic as 4000 BC to 2350 BC. Dimensions: Flake 1 - 19.2mm x 12.6mm x 4.2mm, 1g Flake 2 - 22.7mm x 10.8mm x 3.4mm, 0.9g

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint scraper dating to the Neolithic period. The scraper is fabricated on a secondary flake of light brown flint. The ventral face has a bulb of percussion at the proximal end and ripples of percussion across the face. The dorsal face shows the scars of several previous flakes or blades having been removed. There is a small area of off-white cortex remaining on the edge of the flake at the distal end. The edges of the flake close to the proximal end have been worked to create scraping edges using short, parallel shallow retouch.

Record ID: PUBLIC-9266AA
Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A blade core fabricated from a nodule of pale brown flint. The core is narrow in section and sub-triangular in plan. There is a single striking platform created from two, parallel, transverse flakes removed from the widest end of the core. One face of the core has the scars from the removal of two, long blades. This area has started to recorticate to an off-white colour. The opposite face and part of one edge are covered in a thick, chalky, off-white cortex. The core probably dates to the Mesolithic period.
