Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Darlington

A copper-alloy strap end dating to the second or third century AD.
For a parallel, see Nicolay, J. (2007) Armed Batavians, p. 352, Pl. 41, no. 204.4 which is described as a strap terminal and given a date range of AD 120-250/300. Hoss classifies this type of strap end as H.2 (Strap ends with multiple profiles) and dates them to the mid to late second century AD on the basis of stratified examples from Unterschwaningen and burials from Lyon and Viminacium (Hoss 2014, 275). See Taf. 79 and 80 for illustrated parallels. Compare with BM-ED1BEB and BH-F0C4BE.
