Medieval to Post Medieval (c. 12th to mid 19th century) cooking vessel rim: The rim, in profile, is a slender 'D' and tapers to a blunt edge. The only original edge is the rim, the other edges of the fragment are all broken, but not recently. The interior surface is smooth with the external surface being slightly rough with traces of a black substance which is carbon deposits presumably. The surface is a mid to dark green/grey colour. Fragment of a Roman copper alloy Colchester Derivative brooch, probably a Harlow, the lower part of the bow and the catchplate only. There is a median rib between concavities on the front of the bow and the back face is flat. A channel runs along the base of the catchplate flap and there are two perforations, one circular, the other triangular and filled with dark reduced clay (from the casting process). Extant length 24.5mm. c.43 - c.80 AD.
